Notice is hereby given to the electors of the School District of Maple that a spring primary election for school board members will be held on the 21st day of February 2023. Voting will be conducted at the regular polling places in each township or village from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Each qualified voter should vote in the township or village of which he/she is a resident. The following is a sample of the ballot, including the names of all candidates in the order in which they will appear on the official ballot. Each elector may vote for three candidates for school board. Six candidates will progress to the April 4, 2023 ballot for the spring election.

NHS Activities Monthly Round-up: January 2023

Band

The currently is currently supporting the basketball teams with pep band performances as well as preparing concert music for upcoming events.  On Wednesday, February 22, they will perform for a panel of three judges at a WSMA Instrumental Concert festival.  On Thursday, March 2, they will join the choir on the NHS Spring Concert.

Choir

The Concert Choir, Wolf Pack, Soprano Alto Group, and Chamber Singers are preparing for the Spring Concert on Thursday March 2nd as well as Solo and Ensemble. Vocal Jazz is also busy preparing for the Coffee House Concert on April 4th.

Musical

Rehearsals for the 2023 musical Legally Blonde are underway. Students are busy learning lines, music, costuming, set design, etc. They are very excited to put the show together for performances on February 11th and 12th.  Click here to order tickets:

FCA

Fellowship of Christian Athletes meets every Friday morning at 7:30 a.m. in Room 3058.  Our leaders are Peter Kephart, Kayla Paulsen, Jenna Hursh and Lawson Burkhart.  Please see any of them if you have questions.  Everyone is welcome!  Mr. Eberhardt and Mrs. Vik are happy to answer any questions as well.

National Honor Society

During Snow Week, the National Honor Society will be raising money for Life House in Duluth.  Life House helps kids, ages 14-24, who are in need of counseling or a place to stay during times of need. Proceeds from the annual dodgeball tournament as well as from two Miracle Minutes during the home basketball games on Thursday and Friday will be donated to Life House.  If you are in attendance at either of these basketball games, students will be collecting donations during half-time.  Thank you for helping us help others in our community!

NES Mentors

What an amazing group of NHS students who volunteer their time to be a friend to an NES student!  These NHS students commit to one Advisory period a week to go to NES to come alongside an NES student who needs some one-on-one time.  Special thanks to Mrs. Hietala for making meaningful connections with our super students at NHS and a great kid at NES!  If you are a junior or senior and interested in being a mentor, please stop in to see Mrs. Vik in Room 3058.  

SADD

Students Against Destructive Decisions is an amazing group of leaders in our school who are working towards helping others choose wisely.  We all have choices to make and if we can do this well, then, generally things go well.  So, recently a group of SADD students wrote some facts about mental health.  Then, at lunch, they had a table where ALL students could read a fact, discuss it with the SADD student and then get a Hershey’s kiss.  The candy represented the love we show to those who have a mental illness and the love we should show to all!  There are two more groups of students who will do an activity for our school and one for NES.   

Yearbook

We have about 100 still available for pre-order.  The opportunity to have the book personalized with your son/daughter’s name on the cover, however, has passed.  The book price is currently $70.

FCCLA -  Family, Career and Community leaders of America 

The FCCLA has participated in several community service activities.   The Thanksgiving Basket collection includes NHS and NMS students and staff.  They were encouraged  to bring in non perishable foods, to fill decorated baskets provided to our local Food shelves.  Over 40 baskets along with more than $400.00 were donated.
    Members supported other groups by making and donating blankets to the KIN drive.
    Before Christmas members with the help  of students in FCS classes planned and carried out a Christmas tea.  Retired teachers and current staff were invited for conversation, goodies and to listen to the Chamber singers perform.  Food items left over from the tea were donated to the Solid Rock men's homeless shelter in Superior.
  Several Members are perfecting their skills and speaking ability as they ready themselves for regional competition at UW Stout on February 15th.

DECA

Your DECA chapter competed at the DECA Districts competition at the beginning of January down at UW-Stout.  They did an amazing job and brought home a ton of hardware.  We earned 24 medals!!  Special shout outs to the following competitors:

Medalists: Josie Kreuser, Chelsey Maki, Brendon Harding, Evan Kreuser, and Anderson Kurtti.
Series Finalists: Lauren Wiita, Ellie Peterson, and Ashlyn Sutherland
3rd Place Overall: Preslie Lucca, Maija Korpi
2nd Place Overall: Madeline Rahman and Kennedy Remington
1st Place Overall: Braedon Gross, Trevy Amundson, and Camden Trzynka

Students who qualified will advance to the State Career Development Conference down in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin at the end of February.

Forensics

The forensics team has held meetings and now members are writing speeches and making cuts to their dramatic interpretation pieces in preparation for the first sub district competition to be held at Northwestern High School on Wednesday, February 22. 

XC Ski Club

The Cross Country Ski club has been hitting the trails every week enjoying our winter wonderland.

FFA

Two students traveled to Stevens Point January 13th to participate in the State FFA Halftime Conference. Senior Brinley Tonn and Sophomore Lily Kwako participated in three workshops with the State FFA Officer team that focused on maintaining momentum in the school year as we move into FFA’s competition season starting in February.

School District of Maple Names the Next Superintendent

January 2023

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: A MESSAGE TO OUR STAFF, PARENTS, STUDENTS AND THE COMMUNITY

It is with great enthusiasm that the Maple Board of Education announces the selection of Karl Morrin. as the next Superintendent to lead the School District of Maple. Mr. Morrin embodies the energy, integrity and genuine passion for serving students that the Board identified as essential qualities for its next leader.

The Board unanimously approved the hiring of Mr. Morrin after a rigorous search, and wishes to thank the staff, parents, and community members for their participation in this process. The next district administrator has big shoes to fill after long-standing Superintendent Sara Croney announced her retirement. Mr. Morrin currently serves as the Superintendent of the School District of Florence County, and comes highly recommended by his colleagues. He has been in the position since 2021. Prior to Florence County, Karl served as the assistant superintendent of Menominee Indian School in Keshena where he began working in 2014. Karl has been in k-12 education for 27 years. Karl is also the current president of the WIAA Board of Control. 

A NOTE FROM KARL “I am truly honored to be named the next District Administrator for the School District of Maple. This district has a commitment to excellence in and out of the classroom, which I have watched grow into being one of the best districts, not only in the area, but in the state.

Being a native of Washburn I am very familiar with all of the towns and villages that make up the School District of Maple. My goal is to be a visible leader throughout our communities and lead our district, so each and every one of our students find success now and in the future!”

Although Karl will not be joining Maple officially until July 1, prior to that time, he will spend time getting acquainted with the Board, staff and community. His vision, passion and energy for the success of every child makes this transition a bright, new and exciting time. We know you will join us in welcoming Karl to the Maple School District. Go Tigers!

2023-24 Open Enrollment Enrollment

What is Open Enrollment?

The inter-district public school open enrollment program allows parents to apply for their children to attend public school in a school district other than the one in which they reside.

Who can apply?

Any Wisconsin resident in 4K to grade 12 may apply to attend a nonresident school district under the open enrollment program. However, a child may transfer to a nonresident school district for early childhood education or 4K only if the child’s resident school district offers the same type of program and only if the child is eligible for that program in the resident school district.

When can parents apply?

The regular open enrollment application period for the 2023-24 school year begins on February 6, 2023, and ends at 4:00 pm on April 28, 2023. The best way to apply is online (a link to the online application is at the top of this page during the application period).  Additional information on the regular open enrollment application season can be found on the DPI applications page.
