Yearbook

    If you have not ordered a yearbook yet and would like to, please either visit https://www.jostens.com/ to order one or fill out an order form (found in the office) and submit payment to the office. The current price is $70. This offer is available until November 18.

 

National Honor Society

    We are partnering with local businesses to do a clothing drive in the month of November.  We are asking students to look through their closets to donate gently used warm clothes (sweaters, sweatshirts, jeans, sweatpants, socks, jackets, shoes, etc.) 

    High school advisories will be competing to see which advisory can donate the most items – this competition will end the Friday before Thanksgiving break.

    Donation boxes will be in the high school commons as well as in a variety of local businesses – please consider donating items when you stop in these places as well (Tiger Nutrition, Backwoods Nutrition, National Bank of Commerce, Ole’s).  Look for the signs around the community.  If you have questions or would like to help in the effort, please contact Mrs. Thompson, kthompson@nw-tigers.org. 

 

Band

The NHS Concert Band recently performed on the Fall Concert (2023 NHS Fall Concert),  Next up are two festivals and a parade.  On November 3 & 4, three members of the band will be participating in the UMD High School Honor Band Festival.  On November 7, 15 members of the band will be participating in in the NWMA High School All-Conference Band (https://www.youtube.com/live/QfrCo_hn31A?si=9cEBUo4mhYJPwg1z).  On Friday, November 17, the marching band will perform in the KBJR Christmas City of the North Parade in Duluth.

 

Choir

Concert Choir just performed on the Fall Concert 2023 NHS Fall Concert. Concert Choir,  Chamber Singers, Vocal Jazz, Satis Stella (previously the SA Group), and Wolf Pack are also busy preparing for the Winter Choir Concert on Monday, December 11th. Small groups are also preparing for the Tour of Schools which will take place during the school day on Thursday, December 21st and caroling at Bentleyville which is on Sunday, December 3rd.  

 

Drama

The cast and crew of this year's drama team are diligently rehearsing for sectional competition to be held Tuesday, October 31st at the Pablo Center in Eau Claire. The cast and crew recently received qualifying scores for sectionals at district competition in Drummond. Community members are invited to see the public performance at The Night of One Acts, held Tuesday, November 14 in the auditorium at 7:00 pm. 



 

FCA

Welcome to FCA!  Our leaders for this year are Lawson Burkhart, Jenna Hursh, Addison Hanson and Ashlyn Sutherland.   We meet every Friday morning in Room 3058 at 7:30 a.m.  FCA participants are making two Christmas boxes for Samaritan’s Purse.  These gifts will be delivered to a child in need.    

   

 

FFA

The FFA attended the Tri County Soil Contest in Milltown in early October. Team members included Maria Wiita, Olivia Opsahl, Emily Thompson, and Lauren Wiita. Soil Contests involve analyzing soil for their ability to have residential, commercial or agricultural value. 


 

NES Mentors

SADD

Students Against Destructive Decisions will be doing several school-wide projects.  On Tuesday, Oct. 31, SADD volunteers will be in downtown Poplar for the Trunk or Treat event from 5:00-6:15 p.m.  Look for the awesome vintage car!  Thank you to Mr. and Mrs. Landwehr for loaning us a cool car for that event!      

 

DECA

DECA had their first chapter meeting!  We’re excited about a great upcoming year!

Band

The NHS Tiger Marching Band recently performed at the Homecoming Game.  This year’s selection was a salute to the Big Ten Athletic Conference entitled “Five out of Ten”.  Next up for the band is the Bayfield Apple Festival Parade on Sunday October 8 at 2:00PM!

Choir

Concert Choir is busy preparing for the Fall Concert on Monday, October 30th. Chamber Singers, Vocal Jazz, Soprano Alto Group, and Wolf Pack are also busy preparing for the Winter Choir Concert on Monday, December 11th as well as the Tour of Schools which will take place during the school day on Thursday, December 21st and caroling at White Winter Winery which is on Saturday, December 2nd.  

Drama

The cast and crew of this year's drama team are diligently rehearsing for their first performance next Wednesday, October 4. This is for the sub district competition, where the cast and crew will receive feedback and scores for their production of "Something is Rotten in the State of Denmark," a farcical look at Shakespeare's "Hamlet." Community members are invited to see the public performance at The Night of One Acts, held Tuesday, November 14 in the auditorium. 

FCA

Welcome to FCA!  Our leaders for this year are Lawson Burkhart, Jenna Hursh, Addison Hanson and Ashlyn Sutherland.   We meet every Friday morning in Room 3058 at 7:30 a.m.  We are looking forward to Tim Gunderson being with us from the Eau Claire area this Friday.  On October 11, we will be attending Field of Faith at Denfeld High School.  It is a great event that is free and open to anyone.  We have a bus ready for all and it leaves NHS at 6:00 p.m.  Please ask any of the leaders for more information.  Mr. Eberhardt, Mrs. Vik and Ms. Schuster are the FCA advisors this year.  

FFA

The FFA student officer team traveled to Bloomer to participate in the Fall Leadership Workshop. Team members include Lily Kwako, Justin Nelson, Maria Wiita, Francesca Germano, Isaac Pooler, and Izzy Dahl. FFA members learned more about their specific leadership position and how to be an effective leader. 

NES Mentors

There are several NES students that are looking forward to connecting with a high school student this year.  We have a meeting planned for Oct. 3 in Room 3055.  Mrs. Hietala will lead the training.  Please see Mrs. Vik if you have questions.  We need more Juniors and Seniors and it is helpful to have your own transportation as you have to go to NES during Academic Advisement once a week.  Thank you for considering this great opportunity to make a difference in the life of an elementary student.    

SADD

Students Against Destructive Decisions will be doing several school-wide projects.  Our first meeting was super productive and we hope to bring an awareness to the importance of making good choices everyday.  We also hope to reach out to all students in our district.

ANNUAL MEETING AGENDA

  6. Audit Report.
  7. Budget review and adoption of the tax levy to include the recommendations for the 2023 school tax levy required for the 2023-24 budget of $21,314,511 for the General and Debt Service Funds and Capital Expansion Fund.
    1.  RESOLVED, that the School District of Maple, Maple, Wisconsin levy a 2023 tax against the 2023 equalized value in an estimated amount of $6,190,688 for the purpose of operation, maintenance, transportation and capital outlay.
    2. RESOLVED, that a total of $3,936,332 be levied against the 2023 equalized value of the property of the school district for the retirement of debt previously authorized by the electors for the payment of principal and interest on such debt.
    3. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a total of $40,000 be levied against the 2023 equalized value for the purpose of pre-financing the cost of future building and site replacement in the Fund 41 Capital Expansion Fund.
    4. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an estimated total of $36,900 be levied against the 2023 equalized value for the purpose of funding extra-curricular activities at Northwestern Middle School in the Community Service Fund 80.
      A total of all levies represented in 1, 2 and 3 will amount to $10,203,920, which will be levied against the 2023 equalized value. The 2023 mill rate will be determined after the equalized value is received from the Department of Revenue.
      §120.12(3)(a) and (c) Wisconsin Statutes requires that the school board on or before November 1st, determines the amount necessary to be raised to operate and maintain the schools of the school district if the annual meeting has not voted a tax sufficient for such purposes for the ensuing school term. On or before November 5th, the school district clerk shall certify the appropriate amount so determined to each appropriate municipal clerk who shall assess the amount certified and enter it on the tax rolls as other school district taxes are assessed and entered.
      If on or before November 1st the school board determines that the annual meeting has voted a tax greater than that needed to operate the schools of the school district for the ensuing school year, the school board may lower the tax voted by the annual meeting. 
      On or before November 10th, the school district clerk shall certify the appropriate amount so determined to each appropriate municipal clerk who shall assess the amount certified and enter it on the tax rolls in lieu of the amount previously reported. The school board must lower the tax to bring it into compliance with the revenue limits, if it determines that the annual meeting has voted a tax, which violates those limits.
  8. Report on the Annual Revenue Limit Exemption for Energy Conservation per Section 121.91(4)(o)(3) of the Wisconsin Statutes.
  9. Resolution for Fund 41 authorizing the district to continue a Capital Expansion Fund for pre-financing the cost of future building and site replacement as needed.
  10. School board member salaries and reimbursement.
  11. Authorization for the School Board to Schedule the next Budget Hearing and Annual Meeting after May 15 and before November 1, 2024.
