Welcome to NHS!!
We are a comprehensive high school of approximately 400 students with a building staff of 50+ individuals committed to providing the best possible learning environment for our students to learn and grow. Our academic programming is rigorous and covers a broad spectrum, led by a teaching faculty of which 67% hold a master's degree or higher.
We offer a broad range of courses in both the core curricular and the CTE [vocational] areas designed to prepare our students for the rigors of college as well as direct training for careers in the trades. We offer AP courses in all four core areas as well as numerous dual-credit and advanced-standing courses aligned with local two-year and four-year colleges and universities. We have accredited pathways in construction and manufacturing that include capstone projects featuring building a house and managing a student-run enterprise. Our fine arts department provides students with excellent experiences ranging from the visual to the dramatic arts. NHS students have the unique opportunity to participate in numerous bands, vocal groups and drama productions…all performing in a state-of-the-art auditorium with professional sound, light and stage systems. Our special education and academic assistance departments serve a diverse population and are committed to preparing our students for life beyond high school with a variety of transitionary experiences and opportunities.
Our Board of Education has made the commitment to provide our students with easy access to the world of knowledge and information by providing each of our students with a Chromebook. We are a “Google” school, which means our staff and students make extensive use of cloud-based applications that provide our students with the types of experiences they will need in college and the world of work.
Athletically, we are a proud member of the Heart ‘O North Conference, offering our students opportunities to participate and compete in 18 different sports at the interscholastic level. NHS sponsors a variety of nationally associated clubs such as DECA, FBLA, FCCLA, Quiz Bowl and FFA as well as 20+ “student-initiated” clubs such as Board Games, Muggles [ala Harry Potter], Amnesty International, Cross-Country Skiing, Fishing, Trap-Shooting, and Drama. Over 70% of our students participate in one or more of these activities! Our students consistently compete at a high level and are seen representing NHS and our community at the state level on a regular basis.
We are all extremely proud of our high school! We are nestled in the beautiful Wisconsin Northwoods in a building overlooking Lake Superior that boasts state-of-the-art classrooms, technical education, athletic and fine arts facilities. Please take some time to browse around this site and enjoy the information we provide here. Of course, you are always welcome to visit us "in person”. Our door is always open to visitors and we would love to have the chance to show you around our school and talk with you about what we have to offer.
