NHS Girls Softball: 2021 Regional Champions
Congratulations to the NHS Girls Softball team as they earned a Regional Championship!
They defeated St. Croix Falls 12-0 in 5 innings on Wednesday, June 16. Next, they will travel to Bloomer to take on the Blackhawks in a Sectional Semi-final game on Monday, June 21.

Congratulations to Tiger golfer Trent Meyer as he finished runner up at the WIAA D2 State Boys Golf Tournament at Trapper Turn Golf Course in Wisconsin Dells.

NHS Activities Round-up: June 2021
Band
The band wrapped up their year's music with the Band Pops Concert and Commencement. The 2021 Band Pops Concert featured The Mandalorian, West Side Story, “Under the Sea” from The Little Mermaid, “Yoda’s Theme” from The Empire Strikes Back and Highlights from Harry Potter. The Jazz Band performed “That Old Black Magic” and “House of the Rising Sun” and the Sports Band played “Smoke on the Water”.
Recognized at the concert and at the earlier Senior Awards night were the following 2021 Senior Band Awards Recipients:

In Addition, Jackson Meller was recognized with a special NHS Band Soloist Award!
We were excited to feature TWO NEW INSTRUMENTS IN THE PERCUSSION SECTION!! The district recently purchased a vibraphone and marimba. We were excited to feature them in the upcoming performance and will be using them for decades to come.
Several band members supported the class of 2021 by performing Pomp and Circumstance at the outdoor commencement ceremony. We were excited to support the class of 2021 one last time this year.
The next performance for the band will be on July 25th at the Iron River Lion’s Club Blueberry Festival Parade!

Choir
Our final performance for the year was a very successful one as we presented Matinee Movie Music on May 21. The audience appreciated our music from “The Princess and the Frog”, “Sister Act”, “The Greatest Showman”, “Mulan” and “Shrek” to name a few. At the program, we honored the 24 graduating seniors who are in the choir, 20 of whom have been in the choir for their entire 4 years of high school. Congratulations Seniors! We will miss you!!!!!!

Trap Club
The State Tournament is on Sunday, June 13th. We have 13 students attending. They will each shoot 100 rounds of competition birds. They will be competing against other student athletes from Wisconsin who are at the same level. The levels are Novice, Junior Varsity, and Varsity.

Bids requested on a new home according to the instructions below:
A new home shell, one story, 24' x 36' with two bedrooms, kitchen, living room, dining room, utility room, and one full bathroom framed in, will be sold to the high bidder over a minimum of $37,700. The house is located at Northwestern High School, Maple, WI. Following are the features of this home:
1. I Joist floor framing with LP High Performance Sheathing.
2. 2x6 exterior wall construction.
3. Engineered roof truss system with 1’ heel height.
4. 5/8” OSB used on the roof sheathing.
5. 7/16” OSB used on wall sheathing.
6. Great Room ceiling is vaulted.
7. Pre-finished hewn half log siding package from Lake States Lumber installed.
8. Aluminum soffits and fascia (Rollex brand).

This house is being sold as a shell. The interior of the building is framed in, but plumbing, finished flooring, sheet rock, insulation, siding, etc. has not been completed. The house is wired including switches, outlets and breaker panel. However, it does not include breakers and lighting fixtures.
This house is open for inspection by appointment only, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. prior to June 14, 2021, contact Penny Lavin, Administrative Assistant in the District Office @ 715-363-0159 to make an appointment.
A certified check in the amount of ten (10) percent of the bid price and a letter from a financial institution stating that the bidder has been pre-approved for their bid dollar amount must accompany the bid. If, after submitting the bid on the house, the successful bidder decides not to purchase the house, the ten (10) percent bid bond will be forfeited. The house must be paid for in full before removal from the school district premises. Removal must be no later than August 1, 2021. It is recommended that bidders have their plans for site development finalized prior to submitting a bid.

The concert will be at 12:00 pm (with limited in-person seating) and will feature performances by the concert band as well as the jazz & sports bands. Choir
The choir had a successful Open Rehearsal on March 5. Part of that recording was sent to the Wisconsin School Music Association for their Large Group Contest. Adjudicators listened to and critiqued the performance of the Hallelujah Chorus, Ave Verum Corpus and Cindy, and the choir was awarded a GOLD MEDAL for their performance. Congratulations, Choir! Even in the midst of the pandemic, the NHS Choir has proven their excellence!
Several members of the choir and band participated in the WSMA Virtual Solo and Ensemble competition in April. We had 27 entries overall and NHS brought home 3 silver medals and 24 gold medals! Of the 20 performers who were eligible to advance to state competition, 11 advanced and will submit their next round of recordings to the state offices in May!

FBLA
Congratulations to the nine participants in the FBLA State Leadership conference:

National Honor Society
We were able to hold an in-person induction ceremony this year. The 2020 inductees as well as the 2021 inductees were honored during the ceremony. Members of the National Honor Society are busy making cards that will be donated to Middle River Health facility.
Trap Club
Trap Club is off and running with 57 members, the most we have ever had in our 7 years of existence. We have been placed in a conference with the biggest schools in WI. Look on the Hawthorne Trap Club facebook page for pictures. The week of April 28 was our reserve score week with competition starting the week of May 3.
