NHS Activities Round-up: April 2024

Yearbook

Yearbooks will be distributed to students in two weeks: on Wednesday, May 15 (seniors), and Thursday, May 16 (underclassmen), during both lunches.

If you have not ordered a yearbook yet and would like to, please either visit Jostens to order one or fill out an order form (found in the office) and submit payment to the office by Friday, May 10, to get your student’s name on the reserved yearbook list. Otherwise, there may be extras yearbooks available on the distribution days, if you want to send money to school to pay for it then.

The price is $75. As of April 30, there were around 50 yearbooks still available for purchase.

Also available for purchase on distribution days will be autograph sections ($5) and clear covers ($5).

Art Club and Visual Arts Classic Team

The Visual Arts Classic Team participated in their state meet virtually rather than at UW-Madison on March 25 due to weather. The team, made up of Jordan Downey, Alex Essen, Hailey Finckler, Claire Germano, Sophie Navarro, Iva Jukic, Shyanne Xiong, Claire Massier, Sasha Rowan, Francesca Germano, Ellie Hanson, and Maria Wiita claimed eleven first-place medals, nine second-place medals, and one third-place medal.
The Art Club hosts the Senior Art Show the week of April 29-May 3 in the high school commons. In addition, on May 10, the Art Club will be putting on the Annual Art Auction and Show. This event will be held in the library with silent auction bidding running from 5:30-7:25 PM.

Breakfast treats are served!  Everyone is welcome - you do NOT have to be an athlete.  Congratulations to our leaders for next year!  We are excited to have Payton Orme, Reagan Eberhardt and Morgan Martens join in the fun with Ashlyn and Addison.

FORENSICS

The NHS Forensics Team traveled to DeForest on April 20 for the state tournament. Senior Linnea Smith received a bronze medal for her poetry piece as did Junior Josh Hanson for his informative speech. Junior Tebogo Anderson received a silver medal for his special occasion speech, as did the interpretive reading group made up of junior Francesca Germano and sophomores Hailey Gilderman and Claire Germano. Seniors Anneke Hoegen received a gold medal for solo acting as did senior Mateo Stauffenecker for his poetry piece. Their coaches were very proud and look forward to next season.

NES Mentors

The students at NES are so grateful for our NHS Mentors!  We are so proud of each of our NHS students who commit to one AA time per week to befriend an NES student.  Communication and commitment are the keys to a successful mentoring relationship.  Thank you NHS students for staying true to the purpose of mentoring.  Please check with your Cooperating Teacher as this time of year is VERY busy at NES with program and field trips.

SADD

The Students Against Destructive Decisions are working on a couple of different school-wide initiatives.  One of your SADD leadership teams is working on Mental Health Awareness activities during the month of May.  We do these projects to remind students of the importance of making choices that will promote healthy mind and body.

Trap Club

The spring 2024 season is underway with week 1 of competition under our belts. We are in Division 2, Conference 3, where we took 5th place this week.
