DECA

Congratulations to all students who attended the DECA State Career Development Conference!  Everyone did an amazing job!  Special shout-outs to the following students:

  • Medalist: Ellie Peterson
  • Finalist: Jaylynne Lawler
  • 6th Place Overall: Sophie Navarro
  • Next stop: Orlando, Florida for our International Career Development Conference (ICDC) in April!

Students also had the opportunity to participate in the Twins “Team Behind The Team” program in Minneapolis, MN this past month.  Almost 20 students toured the stadium and learned all about the economic impact a professional sports venue has. Moreover, they got to grab lunch at the Mall of America beforehand.  It was a great day!

FCA

Please contact Morgan Martens, Ashlyn Sutherland, Addison Hanson, Reagan Eberhardt or Payton Orme for more information.  We meet every Friday morning at 7:30 in Room 3058.  Our FCA Huddle will welcome Mr. Bob Coleman on Fri., April 11.  Hope to see you there!

Music Department

The music department is preparing for the Spring Jazz Concert (Coffee House) on Tuesday, April 8.  Both NHS Vocal Jazz and the NHS Jazz Band will perform.

The concert groups are each preparing for their respective pops concerts while several members of the choir are preparing for WSMA State Solo & Ensemble scheduled for May 3.

NES Mentors

Thank you to all the NHS students who have made a commitment to the NES Mentor program.   We have a great group making a difference in the life of an NES student.  Our 3 C’s for this year are Commitment, Communication, and Consistency. Thank you for committing; thank you for communicating with your cooperating teacher at NES; and thank you for being consistent.  If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Vik in Room 3055 or send an email to Mrs. Hietala.  As spring approaches, the Communication piece is critical!  We understand how busy ALL students are, so thank you in advance for your commitment, and please remember your NES student is counting on you each week to make that connection.

SADD/FACT

SADD and FACT (Fighting Against Corporate Tobacco) are combining efforts at NHS.  We will be meeting with Sara White from Douglas County on Mar. 27.

Student Council

The Student Council will be adding a little fun to our Friday mornings by playing music (requested by the students) before the school day begins.

Trap Club

The Spring 2025 Season is scheduled to begin on April 9, from 4-6 pm.  Before the season starts, there was an open house at the Hawthorne Trap Club on Saturday, March 29, from 11-2.  Members can take a few practice shots, pattern their guns, and generally get acquainted.  The Club is hoping to get some work done also, weather permitting.
