Under the parameters of Wisconsin Act 20, this Early Literacy Remediation Plan is required by state law in order to outline our District’s approaches to universal reading instruction, assessment, and our remediation efforts within 4K and in Kindergarten through third grade. Please see § 118.016(6) for more information.
This Early Literacy Remediation Plan is intended to help the School District of Maple and its staff to:
- Identify learning standards for students as they engage in our literacy program.
- Assess all learners in order to identify students who may need additional support with reading and literacy development.
- Provide literacy related interventions and learning support to students who have identified needs.
- Improve our staff’s understanding of the Science of Reading and improve the quality of their classroom instruction.
This Early Literacy Remediation Plan will provide parents and guardians with information about:
- The DPI’s requirements for reading readiness and early literacy assessments in Kindergarten through third grade.
- The results of reading readiness assessments and other information is used to plan and provide instructional interventions and added learning support for learners as individuals.
- Annually parents will be informed about the requirements of WI Act 20.
- Following literacy assessments, parents will be informed of their child’s performance.
- Parents will be informed if their student requires additional diagnostic testing and ensuing interventions that will come in addition to the student’s universal classroom instruction.
